Overview
Halcyon is a modular furniture system designed for university campuses. Inspired by the tranquil Halcyon bird, the system invites rest, conversation, and casual reconfiguration through its curving, hollow forms and magnetic connections.
The main seating module, crafted from painted wood, features a hollow interior for storing books, bags, or even offering shelter for pets. A secondary cube-shaped module doubles as a side table, stool, or dining surface.

Design Highlights
- Reversible orientation allows multiple seating arrangements
- Magnetic joints enable fast, tool-free reconnections
- Removable and washable cushions ensure hygiene
- Modular packaging allows flat shipment and easy assembly
Reflection
This project taught me the importance of designing for both structure and spontaneity. Furniture, especially in shared public spaces, should support multiple rhythms of use, from quick solo breaks to spontaneous social gatherings.
